Can we have inventory "types" have more than one "category"?

For example, we've got tape that offices use and tape that maintenance uses. I don't want to have two different tape types (honestly I don't think it'll let me without naming it different than "tape"), but tape can only be in one category. So it's currently with office supplies. If I could also put tape as a maintenance supply category, then if someone only has access to office supplies category, any tape listed under the maintenance supply category wouldn't show up.
